ABOUT TERRA

We are a group of community-based family doctors in Vancouver who are dedicated and passionate about providing maternity care.  We strive to offer high quality patient-centered care by ensuring that we share the same philosophy and approach to practice.  We continually upgrade our skills and learn from each other.  We work as a cohesive team, ensuring that with good communication and similar care philosophies, we can offer you and your baby the best possible care.

We attend births at BC Women's Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia.

HISTORY

In the past, many family physicians were on call for maternity patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Juggling busy practices, deliveries in the middle of the night, and their own families' needs was something many could not sustain for a long time.

In 2002, a group of family physicians decided to come together to share their call schedule in order to attain a better work-life balance. The original group included Drs. Winnie Su, Helen Chen, Jenny Liu, Catherine Hui, Sylvia Wong, Margaret Tran, Karmen Loh and Cindy Chang. By 2008, the group grew and became known as TERRA. Dr. Nasha Grant came on in 2008, followed by Dr. Catherine Lee in 2009. In 2010, Drs. Tasha Lamb, Joanne Irwin and Karen Nordahl joined the group. In 2011, Drs. Ashnorr Nagji and Dimithra Hippola joined as well. Dr. Michelle Yuen joined in 2012, Dr. Yasmin Garcia joined in 2013 and Dr. Andrea Thamboo came on in 2014.

Through the years, some doctors have transferred to other maternity call groups. Some have changed their practices and no longer offer obstetrical care but continue to support the Terra group by referring their prenatal patients to us.

Our team came together because we share the same philosophy and approach to prenatal care and the birth process. Our hope is to be able to step back and allow the whole process to unfold as naturally as possible. We are there to make sure that your health, your baby's well-being, and your safety are at the driving force behind any decisions we make together during this wonderful process.

Someone from our team is on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to address any urgent pregnancy-related concerns.
